Subject leaders have considered how spirituality can be promoted in all lessons:

Spiritual development in Design and Technology: By using creativity and imagination, children can design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. Extraordinary design can inspire awe and wonder for either its beauty, its function or its magnitude, e.g. The Shard, the inner workings of a clock or a Faberge egg. Children appreciate that some design is explicitly for religious experience e.g. a cathedral or a Mosque.

Spiritual Development in English – We develop spirituality by reading and responding to inspiring texts that link in with our wider topics. We reflect and enquire about what we read and make conjectures about people’s characters and actions. We then discuss moral dilemmas and focus on our beliefs through our writing.

Spiritual development in Art: Children will be helped to explore their creativity through an approach to learning which encourages them to share their individual approach. They will become more resilient, confident and self-reliant as they discover they can express themselves confidently in Art lessons. Children become curious about the world as they discover that Art is a way for them to apply influences and learning about artists in their own work which can be displayed for other people to appreciate.

Spiritual development in Science:  Through Science in the Hope Federation, we enable children to nurture a natural curiosity and guide them towards looking at the world and noticing, with awe and wonder, the natural and man-made delights all around us. We want to encourage them to ask ‘big questions’ about science and explore with curiosity to find answers. We provide many opportunities for children to learn about nature and the role they play in protecting our world.

Spiritual development in Computing: Children will be helped to explore their creativity through an approach to learning which encourages different solutions to problems. They will become more resilient, confident and self-reliant as they discover they can problem-solve and be supportive to others in their computing classes. Children become curious about the world as they discover that computing skills help to explain complicated ideas, for example using graphing skills or search engines.

Spiritual development in phonics: Children will be helped to explore their creativity through an approach to learning which systematically allows them to apply knowledge at a good pace. They will become more resilient, confident and self-reliant as they discover they can apply new phonic skills independently using tools in the environment that help them. Children open up the world around them as they discover that symbols and marks have meaning that allow them communicate with other people in a variety of different ways.

Spiritual Development: RSHE teaching within Hope Federation bring together Relationships, Sex, Health Education, emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development. Children learn to have mutual respect and tolerance for those of different faiths and beliefs. Children will have the skills to develop positive, safe relationships and will be celebrated for their uniqueness.

Spiritual Development in MfL – We develop spirituality by learning about other cultures and their ways of life and compare them to our own. We appreciate the diversity and constructs of foreign languages and how they are used and represented in the four corners of the globe. We understand that languages have mixed roots and they themselves will have heritage from other places.

Spiritual Development: Through Maths in the Hope Federation we enable children to experience the patterns that Maths provides in nature and in the man-made world. Maths provides opportunities for awe and wonder at beautiful patterns which exist through numbers and geometry. Our aim in Maths is to explore and reveal the awesomeness of the universe which can be described by maths. Universal truths in their simplicity exist in Maths and uncovering and recognising these Mathematical generalisations should be part of every lesson.

In Geography we encourage awe and wonderment of both the local and wider world. We are inquisitive of and respectful to differing cultures within human geography, as well as open to new experiences and challenges. We explore the natural world around us; how it is formed, where things reside in relation to each other, and what changes can be made to catalyse an impact on our environment.

Spiritual Development: The EYFS in Hope Federation provides children with opportunities of awe and wonder through our engaging and captivating curriculum. Children become curious about the world around them and take part in experiences that spark creativity and problem solving. We believe every child is a competent learner who can be resilient, capable and confident, moreover all will flourish.

In History we peer through the window of the past; observing, reflecting upon and engaging with events of History as well as those who have experienced them. We provide first hand experiences to inspire through a multitude of trips and in school visitors, providing a pride and interest in different heritages and traditions.
